Day 1 Home to Poole

We took a leisurely drive to Poole and stopped en route at Stonehenge.   The weather was very sunny but windy.  It was quite a long walk from the car park to the stones so we took the complimentary bus.  There were not too many people around so got some good photos.  Difficult to imagine these stones have been in place for around 5000 years (constructed around 3000BC)

We then had our lunch at lesser known Woodhenge, another ancient Neolithic site built around the same time as Stonehenge.  We walked around the concrete markers that showed where the original timber posts were constructed.   This site was only discovered when an airline pilot saw a series of 6 oval shapes in the ground and arranged for them to be investigated further.  At the centre of the ovals are tombs of a young child and a teenager.

We continued to our hotel in Poole and took the bus to the Quay where we had a walk around before returning to the hotel for dinner.
